My Journey into Screenwriting
I grew up in a family with a deep love of mathematics. My father was a maths teacher, he even taught me Algebra and Trigonometry at high school, and my eldest sister was also gifted in maths and became a teacher. Education, curiosity, and problem-solving were part of everyday life in our home.
While living in the UK, I worked at universities and also taught mathematics privately, helping students at all levels. Teaching was not only a profession for me, but it was also something I shared with my family. I helped my children with their studies, and later my grandchildren, too. A phrase my daughters often said to their children became something of a family motto:
“If you don’t know, ask Baba.”
“Baba” is what my children, grandchildren, and even their friends and teachers have always called me. That simple sentence planted the seed for a creative idea that would later grow into a series of stories.
From a young age, I loved watching the TV series Columbo, where a clever and quietly humorous detective solves mysteries in an unconventional way. Inspired by that style, I created an educational and comic series titled If You Don’t Know, Ask Baba, blending learning, warmth, and gentle humour.
In early 2021, I completed an Introduction to Screenwriting course with the University of East Anglia. This experience helped me develop twelve episodes of If You Don’t Know, Ask Baba and gave me the confidence to expand my storytelling into film.
All of my screenplays are based on real-life experiences, stories of quiet sacrifice, dignity, and love that often go unnoticed. These stories form the heart of my creative work.
