About My Tar Journey
The Tar is an ancient Persian musical instrument and a cornerstone of Iranian classical music. I have always loved listening to its rich, expressive sound, and for many years I have dreamed of playing it myself.
At 70, I finally began my journey. I studied through online lessons and Persian music books, learning how to read musical notation. However, I soon discovered that translating written notes into real-time finger movements on the Tar was far more challenging than I expected.
Rather than giving up, I created a simple personal playing method that made the instrument accessible to me. While this method may not follow traditional standards, it allows me to enjoy playing and connect with the music in my own way. For my own use, I have transcribed many beloved Iranian songs into this simplified notation.
